Tablet for son (8yrs)

Options
Hi my son who is not quite 8 really wants an i pod. Well actually my daughter has an ipod 5 (saved hard for it) and he wants an ipad.
He is nothing like as disciplined as she and so will never be able to save enough. (and actually, now she has it I am not convinced it's all that, I'd prefer an i pad) Now ideally he would love an ipad, but they are so expensive he's never going to get that!
He now has around £80 by his birthday could have more.

What are you opinions about some of the cheaper tablets?, I read on here someone bought both kids a tablet for xmas for £75, but I can't find the thread, grr!
My concern is if it not an 'Apple' he won't be up to speed and be able to do the games/ apps his friends have with all their apple things (temple run, face time etc.) so should I look at a cheap tablet or should he keep saving for an ipod? (prob 4th gen)
Thanks.

I bought a Ployer Momo tablet for £70 and I love it. It's the latest version of the tablet and comes with the latest version of the Android operating system, so it certainly is up to spec.

It doesn't have FaceTime, but it has Skype, and a pretty decent camera. Here is the link at: Amazon.

seems to be highly thought off, twice the memory, and hdmi output for the extra £5,

as to the buying apple or saving, give him the option, he can have a cheaper one now or have to wait for a while to get the ipod
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • Thanks Guys, I still don't know what to do, those both look great and i think if i offered him the choice he'd go for one, (instant gratification 8yr old boy!) but not sure...how do i find out if it runs games he'll want? (Tepmle run for example?)
    Thanks

Google's Asus Nexus 7 is great for games and is far less than an ipad, my daughter uses mine lots (8 years old).

go to the google play store, search for the games, if they are there then they will run.
