ADT alarm Problem

Have an ADT alarm which has developed a fault.

On the control panel the little green light is flashing fast and when you try to activate the alarm a message 'power failure - setting aborted' appears.

Any tips on fixing this or is this a call out job?

If thats flashing then its either a fuse supplying power to the alarm panel could be the 3A external fuse or an internal fuse, it could also be the battery in the panel or bell box is faulty.

I would go the ADT route as the alarm will have a tamper lockout programmed in, ie if you remove any of the covers it will not reset unles an ADT code is entered, they do that so you have to goto them and not another alarm engineer.

The days of ADT locking customers out by only having an engineer code to reset anything and everything have long, long gone.

The only time a panel locks out is when it has gone into alarm. Then an engineer reset is usually required, but as long as you have a good reason why the system has tripped then you can call and get a remote reset code.

The mainstay of the ADT Intruder Alarm is now the Galaxy range, as opposed to the ADT of old using ther own design of control called the Focus range(which were mainly phased out due to Y2K andf signalling problems).

The panel is telling you that there is a power fail somewhere in the system. That is why it is the setting procedure is being halted.

If you feel confident enough then the following -

Check that the fuse in the spur next to the panel is ok. Check that there is power at the spur(make sure that a circuit breaker hasn't tripped etc).

Check the internal fuses.(You can remove covers which will trip a tamper alert. Purely internal, just enter your customer code to silence). Replace if required, replace the covers, enter your customer code to reset and try setting again.

    Otherwise give ADT a call

My ADT Home Security System has developed a fault as on the control panel, when I try to set the system I get a message, "power failure, Settings Aborted" with the Green Power Light flashing fast. On reading all the excellent advice on this Forum, I see that I'm not the only owner of this system to experience this problem!

Having done a process of elimination while checking my User Guide, having pulled the main fuse, everything stayed on.

So with the above in mind, I can only assume that a fuse in the main box has gone but i don't know what this would look like as most of the pictures I've google on line do not show me what this fuse would look like?

Can anyone help me here as I feel confident enough to have a look if I knew what this fuse looked like!

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have not had my security system under contract for a number of years and on checking with ADT they want to charge a call out fee of £134 plus vat.... :( told them it would be cheaper to install a new alarm system...

    Thanks
