Help we have fleas

So we took in what we thought was a stray cat, treat him for fleas anyway we found he lives behind us so took him home. During the cold though we brought him in the house today I found two fleas. One was on my hand and got away before I'd actually realised what it was, the other was dead on a glass. I've been using fiprospot but have read this doesn't always work so I'm going to get advantage or the kitties but what do I treat the house with?

Indorex is very good - http://www.vetuk.co.uk/flea-treatments-household-flea-sprays-c-3_419/indorex-household-flea-spray-500ml-can-p-677
The link isn't necessarliy the cheapest place to get it, just showng you what it is and that it has good reviews.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was just looking at that on the same website. Will I need to find somewhere for the cats to stay for a day? Do I need to spray everything? The main of the house is wood or tiled floor downstairs but upstairs is mainly carpet.

No...cats can be in house. Preferably not in the same room as the one you are treating though but give them an hour and they can access the room again. Yes you need to spray everything. Carpet, edges of wooden and tiled floors, soft furnishings...and then don't vacuum for a day.

  • The office I worked in in my last job had fleas in the carpet. I bought a flea bomb off eBay and it worked really well.

My house is all carpeted except the kitchen, my dog picked the fleas up from where he went to stay when I had to leave him longer that usual, her partner works in student flats and we think he brought them home with him and my dog caught them. He was treated with Advocate and the vet gave me the Indorex but it is a lot cheaper to get it off the Internet than the vets.
I did spray everywhere just before I was leaving the house for the weekend and taking the dog with me. The vet said it was so good that you could actually just spray it into the air, giving a long spray and it would do the trick.
I only had to use it once.
Don't forget though that they hatch at different times so you will still keep seeing newly hatched ones for a few weeks until they have all hatched and died.

I recently had a flea problem with my two kittens. I used Advantage on the kittens and Virbac Indorex on the house, I found both were cheapest on the pet-supermarket website.

I left the kittens at my mums for the day, while I sprayed the whole house (we only have wooden floors and a rug), including furniture and upholstery, both sides of cushions etc, washed our bedding on 60. Then I used a flea/nit comb on the kitties, killed off a few, then applied the Advantage, before brushing them again a couple of hours later, with all the fleas falling out / coming to the top of the fur or acting very lethargic.

I brushed the kittens the next day with the comb and only found one dead flea, have tried again since and there's no sign of the !!!!!!s! Kitties have now stopped scratching and I think we'll be safe for a while. We will be re-treating in a few weeks, but the Indorex is meant to kill fleas at all stages so will just be keeping an eye out. I can thoroughly recommend what we did though. Good luck!!
