Apologies if this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't find a Store Card area, however I've probably missed it
Anyway I have a TopMan store card (the work of the devil). I hate them, and 99% of the time, I refuse to take out a store card. A couple of months ago however I bought a few items of clothing and took out a store card receiving 20% off, with the view of paying it straight off and closing the account.
Having received the first statement there was a bit of confusion about the account number which I queried, and was told it would all be sorted in time for the 2nd statement. Stupidly, I completely forgot about the original statement and missed the £4.00 minimum payment.
I received an interest charge of £1.11 which I fully accept, but I also received a late payment charge of £12.00
This surely cannot be justified.
Is it a case of tough luck, shouldn't have forgot, or are they in the wrong. They claim this £12.00 covers administration, which I'm afraid in eyes is wrong.
Can anybody give me any advice? I'm about to pay off the clothing fees and interest, however I don't want to not pay the late payment fee if it'll land me in trouble or even more fees further down the line.
Thanks.

Late payment fees have recently been capped at £12 after the Office of Fair Trading got involved in the UK. This fee isn't a percentage, it is supposed to cover their reasonable costs associated with late payments etc. I doubt there's any way you can realistically get it back, you missed the payment and have been hit by the charge. I personally would pay up.
Before the cap was introduced, some places were charging up to £35 for a single late payment...0 -

All standard charges i'm afraid.
It really is worth sorting it out as soon as possible and paying off straight away before you get anymore charges.0 -

Unfortunatly this is yor fault, therefore you have to bare the cost of it.
Out of interest though is the topman store card a credit card or can it only be used in topshop?0 -
It's not a credit card. OP said it was a store card but couldn't find a separate board for store cards. That's why it's on this board.0

Thanks for the replies, in that case... slap on the wrist, pay it off in full, close the account, is what I shall do next!
Just before I do so, I'm confused as some have said differently.
Now I'm going to attempt to post links, so hopefully it will work:
