Ipod shuffle connector to multi-pin connector

Hoping someone can help! I used to have an old Ipod nano and had a connector wire fitted to my car so that it would play through the car stereo. The nano died a death and I've been missing my music in the car.... and on a whim bought a new Shuffle today.

Of course it doesn't have the multi-pin connector that my old nano had... is there a connector that has a headphone jack at one end and a multi-pin connection at the other end so that I can plug it into my car connecting wire?

If what you have is a Dension Ice-Link connector in your car (where the first five playlists on your nano appear as the first five CDs in an imaginary CD changer) then a shuffle won't work well, because it doesn't have the means to handle requests over the interface. I've got an elderly Ice-Link in my car, and a recent nano works well, as (amazingly) does an iPhone 4S.

You may, however, need one of these to allow a cable which pretends to be firewire (which will charge old Nanos, early iPod touches, early Classics) to instead pretend to be USB (more modern iPods).

If your old Nano is a first generation one, you could try sending it back under the first gen Nano battery replacement programme, see here. I got a current 8GB nano in exchange for my 1GB first generation one.
