TomTom vs Others?

My mum has asked me to buy a TomTom for her but it seems that it's almost twice the price of the Aldi/Lidl ones.
What's the difference? She isnt at all technical, but I'll set it up for her. She'll need it as simple as possible otherwise she wont use it and I'll get blamed for wasting her money by trying to do things on the cheap.
It will also have to be as 'tidy' as the TomTom - so no wires or having to turn on bluetooth etc before it will work. I know it sounds pedantic and if it was for me I wouldnt care, but her friends already have them and i'll get the blame if I've bought her a 'half-arsed' system.
I was supposed to choose a GPS thing for her last week and I've only just got around to doing it now so any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
James.

James,
Check out http://www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk/ for a lot of reviews, forums and opinions on this kit.
I use the Medion (Mitac Mio) GPS PDA, but probably too fiddly for your mum.

I have Tom tom on my ipaq. Dont bother with anything else. It is absolutely superb. On the above link you can download points of interest, speed camera locations, gerages, restaurants in fact everything you can think of (all free) which I dont think you can with the others. I was about 150 miles from home last week and needed to get to a Tesco. Clicked on "tesco" and TT took me straight there.0

i agree ive got tom tom 3 on my mitac mio 168 pda(built in gps receiver).ive also downloaded a full postcode search program+the speed camera data base from pocketgpsworld .tom tom3 i easy to set up but the extra progs take a bit of setting up,once done though the postcode program makes it easy. push 1 button ,type in a postcode ,press navigate and away u go:D
if u get a pda with a built in gps u only need 1 wire(to keep it charged)which u need with tom tom go anyway.
tom tom 5 is out soon so bargains to be had or u could hang on for that which already includes full postcode search & poi warnings.0 -
Yep, agree too. I've got TomTom on my Dell Axim X30 with a Fortuna Bluetooth GPS and it works an absolute dream. My wife can even use it and that's saying a lot!.....Do not speak- unless it improves on silence.0
