How much do you think insurance would be for me?

I've got my test booked for March, my mum is going to add me on to her insurance, just wondering if anyone has any idea how much it would be, as I would have to pay the extra?

Edit: I'm 26 and my mum has a Corsa if that helps.

£469.12....Try getting a quote and see what it could be. Getting a quote does not commit you to take the insurance out.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Use a comparison site and have a look at policies where you are a named driver and your mum the main driver and policy holder.

Make sure you mum checks with her insurance how much it will cost to add you in, change of details often have a charge themselves before the premium difference is calculated (I've seen up to £75 to make a mid term policy adjustment). Compare that price against the price your mum is quoted.

You and your mum may find it is cheaper even with policy cancellation to take up a new policy. My husband has just found this out, trying to add his younger brother to his policy!

my insurance was going to go up £900 to put my son on but he is only 17, it is cheaper to insure a learner driver than someone who has just passed.

He has now got his own car that we insured 3rd party fire and theft for just over £600 with Quinn, will go up when he passes though
  • ok, way too confused lol. No idea what half of that means, no idea about insurance...just know I need to have it.
I'll ask my mum later, would only be adding me after I've passed my test, even though I've had lessons on and off for years she won't let me near the car until then.
I would only have access to the car maybe 2/3 half days a week, I don't know if that makes any difference?

No one can possibly tell you how much it might be, far too many variables. Get on the comparison sites. :)
  • Firstly, it is a minefield but insurance varies on things like your postcode, where you keep your car in the day/at night, what purpose the car is used for on a daily basis, your mothers motoring history, whether she has claims and convictions so, really unless you get a price for you both from a site or comparison group or your mum asks her insurance company the cost, we literally would have no idea what kind of price you are looking at.
  • Young lad I know is 19 got a quote (he hasn't took his test yet). His quote was £3000, but if he went on insurance with his mum it was £800....As previous post said it depends on different things.

£3500 to add my 18yr old son who just passed his test onto my insurance.

Before he passed he could've got his own fully comp policy for £80/month.

Although before he passed he would have had an experienced driver to hopefully help prevent accidents, and make sure he didn't do anything too stupid ;)
As a learner you're a much lower risk than as a new driver because you are being supervised.

Op, unfortunately no one can give a realistic estimate of insurance for you, as there are loads of variables we don't know.

    mega bucks.

Based on all the information you gave us I did a quote on gocompare for you. It came out as unaffordable to the person on the forum at MSE. (Yes those really were its exact words).
