Hi,
Would like a bit of help in deciding were to go on our holidays this year. in june.

Was thinking of going to the canary islands either puerto rico in Grand Caneria or lanzarote not sure of a resort,

We are a couple in mid forties would like to go some where lively.
Not full of drunken yobbos Lol

Any recommentations would be greatly appreciated.

Even considering Benidorm.

    playa de las americas

dont' worry not the lively area, but there is a lovely end towards the los cristianos area.
Some nice hotels, are the noelia sur, vulcano, siesta, and apts, marola portosin (i can highly recommend) again take a look at the reviews on tripadvisor, these apts are in a lovely area.

there is the safari centre which has upmarket bars and restaurants and designer shops, your only a 10 min walk away from the lovely las vistas beach, with even better restaurants behind the beach on the san telmo area, the watermelon restaurant is lovely, it's about a 20 min walk into los c, or you could take a lovely long walk along the beach front down to puerto colon or even further, over an hour, but a lovely walk.
at the back of the safari centre if the la paz strip a row of bars, all with evening entertainment on.

there is a clubbing area, called veronicas/starcos, but these are small areas, and i bet if you passed them during the day you would not know they was there, but at night it gets lively, with prs and plenty of people.

But you could be sat at a bar like the travellers rest a 3 min walk away from this area, and you wouldnt' know it was there.

tripadvisor is a wealth of informatin on this, on their forums

    or just google images like
    safari centre tenerife
    las vistas beach tenerife

or take the little yellow google man around for a walk on google earth.

cheap flights can be booked with ryanair/easyjet/monarch and others, cheap acommodation with travelrepublic, alpharooms all abta bonded, and a taxi transfer about 22 euros, transfer takes 20 mins or the bus for a couple of euros.

if you need any help feel free to ask,

I stayed at one of the Mare Nostrum hotels which is actually Playa de las Americas but very near to Los Cristianos.

It was great! as Saint_Chris says not the lively area, and we were very near the Safari centre and beaches. I would go back again.

Teguise is quiet , Puerto del Carmel is lively, if you stay at the far end of PDF you could stay in a quieter place then get the bus into the town at night.

we stay at riu clubhotel paraiso in playa del pocollis, a short stroll into puerto del carmen, but this hotel is all inclusive.
costa adeje in tenerife is not lively as in Playa las america but only a short walk away.
gran canaria i have stayed in playa del ingles which is the lively nightlife area, we stayed feb and march and not full of yobs but cant say what june will be like.
fuerteventura, corralejo is the livliest of the resorts but again we didnt encounter any drunken yobs

    Really?

I had my purse nicked there , reported it to the police who said I was lucky I didn't have a knife pulled on me!

Son's friend lived there for 8 years , robbed numerous times , last time tied up and beaten ,

    Wouldn't recommend canaries to anyone
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later

A bit steep... the Canaries are nice. I wouldn't recommend Las Americas to be fair but there are nice places too...
    Happy :)
