I'd like to point out that many people believe the BBC is well worth the cost of the license fee.

If that were true that BBC was worth the cost of the license then the service would be optional.

But in reality I believe there would be very few takers
  • Back to the TV license issue. When I lived in a student house, we were told that if we had shared tenancy, i.e. we all pooled together for the rent and paid landlord once, we could share a tv license, but if we had joint tenancy, we all signed a contract each and paid individually, we had to have a contract each. I think it's the difference between a family renting with one paying and our situation, with six individual adults paying.

Right now, OH and I have a TV but do not receive channels (having wasted so much time as students watching rubbish!). We use it for DVD playing. We wrote to the TVLA to inform them. We got a letter last september saying as long it was true, that's fine, but someone would be around to check. No-one has yet been. It's now July.

If you don't receive signals, you don't have to pay. You don't need a license to own a TV. But owning pre recording tapes is a breach of copyright laws. Especially if you don't receive signals.

    Hope that's helpful.

Unfortunatley, you are wrong. I have double checked this, and the TVLA have specifically said, and I qoute "Any applience that is capable of receiving BBC signals, requires a licence". I would suggest you phone them and ask if you dont beleive me.

Unfortunately what you have posted here is crap as it would mean you needed a license for a radio, which is not true. Perhaps you misheard, or dreamed it or something.

I pay for my licence, I expect a better service of broadcast.

    Infact I demand it.

I can see why dumbing down rubbish is produced....because the advertisers pay for the com, i said, completely paaaaaaaaaaathetic programs.

While I agree about the quality of BBC broadcasts, I am not entirely convinced that they can report the news be impartially when they get the finances from government. (he who pays the piper calls the tune.)

Especially after that fiasca about a year ago when head of BBC had to resign

Have you watched the BBC 6 o'clock news lately ? It is awful ! "The George and Natasha Show" - what a pair of ******** ! You really can't get much dumber than that.

I've started watching Ch 4 news now, much better.

    From today's Mail:

As Capita are reported never to have used detector van evidence in Court because of doubts about it's legality - this is either a hoax or the BBC wasting more of OUR money !

    What an absurdly long thread.

Just pay the licence fee like everyone else has to! Stop looking for little loopholes that aren't there.
