Could anyone help please?

I have been made redundant 31st January and have had a written offer of a job to start 4th february subject to crb and references. the references are fine but I am still waiting for the crb. As I finish work on Thursday what do I do regarding benefits as do not know how long the crb is going to take or whether it will be fine also. In a quandry as i am a single parent and on wftc and dont want to mess everything up in case it only tkaes a few weeks to start.

Dont tell your employer you have a 'possible' job start as it could effect any redundancy payment - recently happened to me

    Likewise with JCP

I would start the the process of your claim with JCP until you get your 1st pay packet - if they get even a sniff that you might get a job it will destroy your claim - and if this job falls thru it will be ages before your claim starts

Depending on how long you have had your job and been claiming WTC then you may be entitled to a run-on of WTC, so you need to contact the tax credit office about this.

You should (depending on length of service) receive redundancy pay which may tide you ove4r until the CRB comes back.

You can look at HB and CTB to cover rent and council tax however any savings you have over £6k will reduce entitlement and your WTC is income for the purpose of entitlement.

You will also have your CTC and CB this should not change.

If your child is under 5 then you could consider a claim for income support (again WTC will be classed as income and affect the amount payable) if your child is over 5 then it is JSA.

You must sign off after you've worked 16 hours.
Do NOT wait for the first pay-packet.
In principle, claiming JSA, and informing them of an upcoming job is fine, and may be required, as otherwise you will not be paid JSA because you left your prior job without good cause.
However, you will be required to seek fulltime work.
Not simply fulltime work that is OK with you leaving in x weeks.
  • I would apply for the relevant benefits. You will need to find out from the employer whether they will allow you to start (under supervision) on the required day if the crb hasn't arrived or whether they won't let you start until you actually have a completed crb (which could sadly take anything up to several months :( ).
Obviously once you've started or have a definite start date then you should let the job centre know.

The issue here is whether you qualify for the 4 week run on of WTC, if you do then there will be no change to your tax credits and (hopefully if CRB is OK) you can move smoothly into your new employment and notify HMRC accordingly.
Do you know how much redundancy pay you will be due to receive?

I am due to a 1k payout however i have to pay this to my last car payment unless i can reschedule. Yes I am quite worried as seem to have loads to bills to pay at the moment.
I think i still get wftc for four weeks and hopefully i will definately know by then when i will be starting. I understand it that the tax credit office needs to be informed within a month. I was supposed to start 4th february but crb was sent in late by their office so now could be another couple of weeks.
