I hate to say it, but I can see you reinstalling Windows XP to fix that one. But before you do... take a look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317189 (only really applies to Windows NT)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316751
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308299
and if you need to reinstalll XP:

Thanks.
Mr Skint i haven't installed anything new that springs to mind...actually did download quicktime player from a website yesterday to watch a video clip. Not sure if that would have any bearing or not.
Operating system is WIN XP and with office 20000 -
Yeah, definitely try safemode... but I get the feeling you will have exactly the same problem...0

Try running the machine without it being connected to the Internet and see if it still occurs.
You want to
a) Run another virus scan, possibly with different av software. I recommend NOD32 and Kaspersky (the best).
b) Run anti-spyware apps. Adaware and Spybot are too very good free ones, although they occasionally miss things. The best in my opinion is Pest Patrol but you'll have to pay for a license.
c) Make sure you have all of the latest service packs (up to SP2) and all of the updates since that service pack.
d) Make sure you're firewall is up to date. If for some reason you don't have one I'd go with Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm Firewall, both are free.
e) Make sure you are using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer to browse the web.
If it still occurs, you should try doing a repair of Windows using the disc."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Does your XP record an error log? If so can you paste it here?
Also, what processors are running?
Are you running low on free disk space?0
