Where are these kWh figures coming from, are they actual or estimated reads, who is taking the readings. The average consumption with non electric heating is around 300 units per month which equates to around £45 - £50.

These are from my bills, Actual reads.

Have you checked the immersion heater switch as suggested?
Does your resident friend use the tumble drier a lot?

Yes have checked, and no-friend doesn't perm live here, only to sleep and shower really, we wash his clothes when we wash ours. We don't use the tumble dryer and only use the washer 1-2 times a week.

This might be way off the mark but are you sure you are reading the meter correctly? Most meters require that you ignore the last digit when taking readings. Failure to do this could mean your readings are off by a factor of 10.

If this isn't what is happening, I would be taking readings daily or twice a day to try and work out what is using the electricity. You must be able to work out what it is as it is a LOT of electricity! 650 units is almost my annual daytime usage!

Yep, both me and my perm house mate check the meter before sending off the readings. Will have to do that to check, as we're all very confussed!

How can the electric only be £9 for each of August and September when the standing charge at 28p per day would be £8.68 for August and £8.40 for September?

The bills cannot be based on actual readings.
Yes, the bills are actual readings, i've got my bills open and it says 'actual' and i have no idea, that's why i'm so confussed!

Less than 10kWh in a month is nothing! Don't you have any electrical appliances, or a TV? Just having a TV on for 1 hour a day would probably account for most of that.

Read your meter on at the same time each day for a week or so and get an idea what you are actually using.
Yes, we have 1 TV and 3 PCs.

If they are actual readings then someone must have read the meter. Has that happened? Why don't you follow the advice above and read the meter then read it 24 48 and 72 hours later to see how much you are using each day.

You have checked what-the immersion heater? If it's off now, is it possible your friend switches it on without you knowing, for whatever reason?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes i checked about the heater, we don't have an immersion heater, and our friend doesn't go into the room the boilers in, (he wouldn't even know how to use a boiler) as it's a used bedroom.

& I am taking note of the readings, and will be turning everything off to see if electrics still being used.
