Young nephew has the above printer, it's worked perfectly for the 3 years he's had it.
This week it suddenly stopped printing, preview shows and paper feeds through, but no ink.
There are no error codes on the screen or flashing lights.
If it was just one colour missing then I'd suspect blockage, but all 4 colours suggests print head failure to me.

Anyone care to disagree? :)

In the absence of any remedies, I'm looking for recommendations for a new printer/scanner up to £75 absolute max.

Cheap/refillable cartridges preferred, rather than cheapest printer.

Apart from fairly low everyday use, he also prints off a small newsletter/update to circulate to his sponsors. ;) Only about 10 copies single side of A4.
So a mix of text and photos, but the photos do not have to be high quality.

Looking forward to any replies.

  • Always been an Epson fan here - many printers/scanners in your price range and compatible inks are cheap.

Haven't Epson just updated their range?

No more SX235w from Argos etc, meaning that there won't be any compatibles for a while.
Also the new range has a combined colour cartridge, which I was trying to avoid.

Meanwhile, I've seen THIS HP reduced at Tesco, 4 cartridges and not too bad price for XL compatibles.

  • There are many models still on sale in my local Argos and in fact Tesco.
The model you mentioned is the one I bought last year - really happy with it.

re.the Epson at Argos, there are reports that some have been given the newer model despite ordering older SX235W.

It did show available on the website, but it's not in the latest instore catalogue.

    I will be checking.:)

Any how, the printer is now with someone who 'knows' what's wrong with it. ;)

I've got enough to do, I'll just let them get on with it.

  • Hope they won't charge you much - for the price of a set of original inks these days you can get a decent printer for home use.

    No charge.

As I originally said, there are no flashing lights or error codes on the printer lcd screen.
But he's convinced that the waste ink tank is full and all it needs is resetting.
