This a nation thing or just local?
Speaking to someone i know who works shift at Sainsburys knows nothing of it.
My fiend has looked into it and apparently he says those affected will be getting a letter followed by the payment in their pay a few days later.
Told him that it does not really give him a chance to consider options or refuse the offer with the intention of pushing for the full amount owed.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0 -

exact same has happened to me, iv worked nights since i started nearly 5 years ago doing 10 hour shifts...only last year i transfered to another store and even though i requested to do 10 hour(still do this day i am requesting) they wont allow me to do it, because its too much work for HR.
so...because im now doing 8 hours, im not entitled to this 'goodwill payment'. which is completely disguisting because
1. its no fault of my own that iv lost holiday pay
2. its no fault of my own that iv been taken off 10hours (apart from moving store)
after looking at the citizens advice website, i have found that if there is a deduction from my holidays on the time i did 10hour shifts..then IT IS ILLEGAL as sainsburys arnt allowed to do that.
so those who havnt got anything they deserve like myself....suggest taking legal action.0 -
Well my mum spoke to acas today they said that basically at sainsburys we are paid more holidays than the minimum allowance and therefor she really cant do anything other than accept what they have given her or take legal action where she might end up losing out ... But im in ur boat getting nothing and been on nights for 7 yrs it makes me feel sick i cant believe they can treat staff this way and get away with it
Is there anyone else out there who is trying to take this further if so what advice have you been given0 -
11years im a team leader for 5 doing 39h i got about £420 another member of staff doing 30h week working at sainsburys for 2years on at same store got £490, another member of staff working 30 h for 5years got about £140
and if we got diffrent pay outs should we not get diffrent holiday on the new holiday forms0 -
I've worked 10 hour nightshifts at Sainsbury's since before 1998. The contract that I am on is known as 'Red Circle'. Staff were offered cash rewards to give up their 'RC' contract rights. This process was called 'RGS (Rewarding Great Service). If you weren't tempted by the offer/new contract regulations you stayed 'RC'. These details are not just based on nightshift contracts.
Since 1998 there have been many changes to new employee contracts. Every few years the terms change for newbies for instance: There are no Sunday premiums, less breaks, slightly more holiday on average for new colleagues.
This makes the "goodwill payments" in question much more difficult to calculate.
There is some debate over the reason that this only affects nightshift holiday entitlement. There is a school of thought that I believe is correct. That bank holidays for those on 10 hour shifts are calculated at 8 hours per day for each bank holiday, every year. This equals a yearly shortfall of 15 hours per year for a full time colleague. Which is exactly the amount that my holiday has been upped for 2013.0
