incapacity benefit?

I generally work 6 1/4 hours a week (I know its not much, but because of my arthritis, and family commitments I find it enough). On March 3rd I ended up off work sick and have been since due to 2 slipped discs and osteophytes, which also caused acute sciatica. As my job involves standing for the full hour and a quarter each day, and the medication I'm on, I have been unable to return to work as yet. The other day I received a form from my employer saying they are unable to pay me Statutory Sick Pay because I havent earned enough (I dont earn enough to pay NI contributions either) but enclosed an information form about incapacity benefit. Reading up on Incapacity benefit, I dont think I would be entitled to it, but does anyone know if there is anything I can claim until I return to work as I still have bills to pay. I am married with 2 dependant children. (if that helps).

I think you would possibly qualify for IB.
From your descrption of your complaints it sounds really painful and debilitating.
Go for it they can only refuse :rolleyes:0 -

Thanks for your reply, it is very painful, and at one point i was taking 21 tablets and 4 lots of morphine per day. As for IB dont you need to have paid NI contributions, work a certain amount of hours, or earn a certain amount a week?0 -
I don't think you would be entitled to Incapacity Benefit as this depends upon having paid Class One Insurance Contributions for two complete tax years.
As you are married I don't think you would be entitled to Income Support either (as this is a means-tested benefit and all family income would be taken into consideration).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but why don't you try putting your details into https://www.entitledto.co.uk and see if it comes up with anything?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

just thought id mention that i am on income support whilst being married and am ill.
I put all my information into the link that other people have mentioned (https://www.entitledto.com) and just to warn you that not all benefits you are eligible comes on there (if i went off entitled.com id be down a considerable amount of money each week).
If i was you i would go on the dwp website (you can now apply online on some benefits aswell) and if you are still unsure id telephone dwp or if possible go into you nearest jobcentre.
Hope of been a help.

The CAB will also do a benefits check for you to make sure that you claim all you can.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
