Should Prizes be New?

I was just wondering what other people's experiences are.

I received a DVD through the post today but the DVD is unsealed and looks to have been used.

So I was wondering are all prizes supposed to be brand new?

Any ideas...don't get me wrong I'm pleased to have won something but I usually give away things I win as gifts but can't in this case.

Where did you win it from? Some blogs and competwition competitions often do second hand giveaways but if it wasn't specified then I'd probably contact where you won it from

yes, all the dvd's, books, cds etc I have won have been sealed. I often see secondhand companies on FB running giveaway but I never enter. Even the comps to win 're-vamped' laptops/pcs - I stay away from in case they have installed some dodgy programs that can tell them your passwords/banking details etc! You never know these days!

I would contact the company you won it from - unless they stated it was secondhand, they should have sent you a new, sealed dvd!

As you can see I have no way of knowing whether it should be brand new or not. I think I shall put it down to one of those things

I would have thought a big newspaper like the Daily Mirror would have been able to afford you a new dvd! I would contact them! If they don't reply - ask why they sent you a dvd that looks as if it has been used on their Facebook page!

I've only ever had in one used prize. It was an XBox game from a gaming website, so I assume they played it for a bit to review it. It was unsealed but in perfect condition.

So maybe they watched it once to review the film?

I've had a couple DVDs/CDs wins which have been unsealed. If I recall, they all had a 'promotional copy' sticker over the barcode so I've always assumed that they were sent it to review as miss mils has said and then after reviewing it have decided to give it away as a comp prize. Sometimes there can be subtle changes between promo copy and final release, I had a promo CD with the track listing in a completely different order, so I considered that a more rarer prize than just 'win this CD'.

I too received a used and unsealed DVD this month, unfortunately while it would not have bothered me usually as it was something I wanted to watch, it was so scratched it was unplayable!

Hi. I received an unsealed copy of Bletchley Circle and I email them nicely about it as I earmarked it for a birthday present. They replied saying they always sent them out like that as that was the way received them from their supplier.

hey my brother worked for a big london online mag and they had a prize cupboard where any promotional goods or items used in reviews were put and used for comps but the items were usually used if they were reviewed, hope i get my first win soon
