You won't get a definitive answer from either the fire/stove manufacturers or the TV manufacturers on this issue.

A fire/stove is there to give heat out and of course heat will rise. A TV is meant to be watched.

You are putting a TV on a chimney breast, where normally a fire is meant to be, so what takes preference?

No fire manufacturer that I know of wil put a fire through the expensive testing, for something that has so many variables ( ie Plasma, LED,LCD,OLed etc )

If your TV guide says keep away from heat, then don't do it.

In conclusion, you can move a TV away from a source of heat, you cannot move a fire away from the TV. It is your choice, but don't go running to either manufacturer, if something goes wrong, they won't want to know
  • Mine gets fairly warm so does other chimney breast up stairs. Personally I wouldn't do it

I'd say it depends on the type of installation, but either way a lot of heat would likely be convecting up over the screen and may cause damage.

    I have a log burner.
I agree with those above; there is probably too much heat for a TV to be located on the chimney breast as it gets very warm.
Also there is a small amount of dust which sometimes gets out when the log burner door is opened and I suppose this could affect the TV.
    Forgotten but not gone.

It's amazing how much heat the TV itself will be putting out, it doesn't need any additional heat to deal with or it's life is likely to be shortened dramatically, sorry.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
