How early should infants fly?

The other two points which occurred to me overnight are that the community midwife can keep you on her books for 28 days after the birth in case of problems, so if you leave the country after 14 days, you are missing out on the last 2 weeks of cover, which may well be needed. I had medical problems after both my children and wasn't discharged by the CM until the 28 days were up, and even if mum is healthy, CMs are good sources of advice if bf is difficult. The second one is (may be TMI for the boys so look away if squeamish) that there is a lot of bleeding for a long time after the birth, and most women feel more comfortable in their own beds during this period.
Could the NI family come to you immediately after the birth, and your OH take baby over to them after the 6 week check, when all of the potential problems are hopefully less?0
