worse off under CTC??

  • yes that's right, God, why can't people keep their useless and bigoted comments to themselves?? I'm asking for help, not people like you on my case.

I'm diagnosed with depression and stress brought on by the death of my daughter and the stress of looking after a highly disabled child, so OldMotherTucker, unless you have something useful to add to my post, please keep your mouth shut and fingers off your keyboard.

OP obviously i have no idea what to that person meant by their post but i was going to post the same, not in a bad way but seriously you deserve a mum of the year award! A disabled child, major health issues yourself and you still manage to care for over 100 hrs a week, that not an easy job! Seriously well done, I hope you get help from friends/family as that sounds like a LOT of work for you to be doing yourself. On the benefits side I dont know but your story touched me and just wanted to say hello xx

I must say I read Old Mother Tucker's post to read the same thing that Dundee Diva said. I'm not sure he/she was having a go at you.
  • The if that is the case, i have erred and i apologize unreservedly, however it seems to me that many people on forums give opinion instead of sticking to the point that was raised in the first place and often the thread gets side tracked.

I've only found myself in this pickle now because i was fed up to the back teeth assuming i was some sort of benefits scrounger when nothing could be further from the truth, that's why i changed my claim to CTC as it appears to me that there is some sort of stigma attached to IS and JSA, at least it doesn't sound so bad when i say "tax credit". Like i say, people shouldn't judge because they 1/ don't know the facts and 2/ because you never know what is round the corner.

"Carer’s Allowance is £58.45 a week to help you look after someone with substantial caring needs."

    https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/overview
Extra amounts can be paid in certain circumstances as follows:

    Adult dependent: £34.40
Child dependent: £11.35 (£8.10 for eldest child for whom Child Benefit is payable).

The child dependent increases were no longer payable for new claims to Carer's Allowance after 06/04/03 (ie when Child Tax Credits were introduced). An increase for an adult dependent was abolished for new claims made on or after 06/04/10.
  • If under the old system you get additional carers for each child as described by the OP. However the entire amount of carers counts as income for CTC purposes.

There are many ways for parents to care for a child even if qualifying for sickness benefits themseves.
