Help to find intermediatry help advice needed

Options
I spent the whole day from 7 am until 4pm yesterday going through my debts ,and my fianc!e debts and my finances .I phoned payplan and updated my creditors according to my experian file and recent letters etc. I checked my tax credit award and realised provisionally it decreases £70 per week from April .So I know I will struggle to pay my dmp ,I phoned the catalogues on my dmp as they are still charging £85 a month in interest but they didn't agree to stop it , as my dmp is for a £100 a month I am achieving nothing .

So I thought okay will phone payplan and ask for a debt relief order before my debts spiral to the limit with interest , no they said not yet stick with the dmp! Phoned national debt line , helpful but a nine week wait .Finally on the wonderful advice from debt doctor phoned sand eventually got through after four hours my local cab who wouldn't arrange an appointment but want to discuss my dmp with payplan to try to get them to freeze interest .I said over and over I need to do a debt relief order ASAP due to the amount I owe .However I have to leave it with the cab for them to ring pay plan.

I know I can ring stepchange but concerned as other half on a dmp with them it might interfere with his , as so far everyone wants joint income ,he doesn't work but gets dla and carers allowance but his dmp is based on his income only ( I think ) as we hadn't been together a long time when he set it up .All current bills and debts here are in my name as he had other commitments to pay like csa before I met him .The tax credits is obviously joint and goes into joint bank account for direct debits .Other half is going to look at a debt relief order in April but is too poorly at the moment to feel like sorting it out , he has vascular disease .and a heart condition .

Where can I find a intermediatry who wont try to put me on a dmp or iva ,I once again have not slept I think the nine week wait would be too long because of the interest piling on is pushing me to the max limit .

Even considering bankruptcy now but worried in case they inform our landlord have no arrears and no clause in the tenancy but its a private landlord , and I dont want him to evict us as I am now on a periodic basis .

Sorry to go on just so so worried thank you

  • HI- I agree, a DMP is not working. I had the same problem with payplan, and think it has something to do with the fact that they are really collecting money for creditors, I am not convinced they offer the best advice.
Bankruptcy and a DRO are pretty much the same but which is appropriate depends on what assets you have and the amount of your total debt.
I know you have to wait for it=but I think your best source of impartial advice might well be Citizens Advice. They don't have an axe to grind- if you post on here (if you feel you can of course), your total debt amounts, your income and expenditure, someone might be able to take a quick look and give some guidance but face to face with someone might be much more reassuring for you.

At least tomorrow you might find out the outcome of the conversation with Payplan, whatever the reason for that is.
Thing is, more than 80% of all DROs are processed by CABx. Sadly, there is no uniformity of waiting times in CABx because each CAB is an individual charity with its own responsibility for funding.
This means that in some areas a CAB might have to scrape by with very little funding, employing little, or very occassionally no paid advice staff.
The other extreme is a CAB like mine, operating on about £1M per year, some are substantially bigger.
All of the above creates a vast difference in availability and ultimately time delay.

Due to data protection Step Change can't do anything with your partners case if you ring them for yourself.
Also I heard last week that once they have received DRO paperwork they will contact you in approx 7 days to get you ready to complete the DRO...
