Hi,

I am looking for a (click Link) vehicle tracking device. I can ask it to send a text to my mobile with vehicle location if and when vehicle is stolen.

I was thinking of this > SIM card. I believe the credit will expire if not topped up / SIM will deactivate if not used used for ..... months?

Can anyone advise how many months and does it matter which provider?

Many Thanks :A

Most PAYG SIM cards last for upto 180 days before the network expires them if you don't make a chargeable call or text within that time. Asda mobile is 90 days.

I have a similar device on my car, so it it does not get triggered within six months I send it a text message asking it to send me a text message back with the network signal level, as the return message is chargeable it counts to keep the SIM alive.

I have also registered the SIM on-line so that I can keep an eye on credit and top-up if necessary again on-line.

    Thanks for the info.

Do you have any comment on the device I have chosen?

It's a fair bit different to what I fitted to my car as mine works on mobile phone mast triangulation, and I don't understand the no subscription part, how do they make money on it.

That is the beauty of it, there is no subscription. One sends a text to the tracker and it responds with text giving google map location to your mobile.

Much the same as the find my phone app, if you are familiar with this application?
