    I would hazard a guess and say either you need to get new batteries (they don't last forever) or you have a short in the camera itself.

    Yep, the 5700 does give you a warning, but then again so should the s3000. I have had much older fuji cameras and all tell you when the power is failing.

    I tried new batteries, no difference. Must read the book to see what it says about the power failing warnings, may be mine is not set up correctly.

    nah, should not need to set anything at all, the power warning is standard. Usually the white battery which has a full white bar or three separate blocks in it reduce until the empty battery turns red, then flashes at you, then tells you on the screen battery empty.

    I have read the book and it reckons it could be something to do with the type of batteries or the batteries being left in the camera when it is not in use. The latter I would certainly be guilty of so I am going to give the batteries a good charge and see what happens when I insert them again.
