Camera with Camcorder facilities

Options
My sister wants a camera which also has the facilities like a camcorder, so she can record things. She wants it to be small and not too bulky. She is willing to spend £150 - £200. Has anyone got any suggestions or recommendations?

She wants to get it in the next day or two.

I have a Sanyo Xacti and I love it. It's really small, easily goes in a bag or pocket, but the pictures and videos are great.

    See them here:

I let my mind wander and it never came back!

How much does it cost? How many photos can you take with it? It stated you can use it as a camcorder for 60 minutes is this correct?

I was lucky and got a good deal from eBay last year, but try

where they sell one of the models (there are several different ones) for £219 with free p&p. (Sanyo VPCCA6 SD Card Camcorder)

    Hope that helps :)

Hiya, there is the Fuji s5700, just came out too. Offers movie recording onto XD or SD memory cards. At highest res, will record about 35 mins onto a 2gb card. 35 mins is a lot of home video.

7mp camera and 10x zoom too.

I have been going on about this since I got one a few weeks ago.

I have the S3000 although you are supposed to be able to record with it I never have. It is a good camera although it doesn't warn you that the batteries are going low, it just dies!! I have the camera since July 2003.
  • I know what you mean about batteries. I use high capacity rechargeables and always got a warning with the old s3100 (currently on ebay - NOT an Advert, just commenting)

Mind you the video capabilities on the new s5700 is a lot better. Maybe not broadcast quality, but good enough for home videos.

I use high capacity rechargeables but they still don't last.

OK, just thought I would offer my thoughts.

By high capacity I mean 2600's which in my s3100 lasted for 5 days+ of my last big holiday where I took 500+ pictures and a lot of them with flash (60% or more with flash).

I would have been more than happy if a set had lasted me a full day, but was surprised day after day.

I mean the same by high capacity as I thought they would last a while. Mine was charged, took 28 photos, some without flash, and now it is dead again.

Does the s5700 tell you when the battery power is getting low?
