Hi there,
My partner is currently on JSA. He has just been informed by the university he was at until last year that they owe him money for 40 hours of work he did while there. They have given him a P46 to fill out. Will this affect his jsa even if he did the work while not on jsa 2 years ago? I apologise for any mistakes as I am on my phone. Thank you for reading.

99% sure it gets treated as capital so no effect on benefits unless there's already a few thou tucked away.

What a nice surprise. It should be treated as income for the period he worked, as this was 2 years ago this will not affect current JSA.
  • Thank you. He was just worried because they are putting it through this years tax year. However they still have his time sheets from when he worked so we have proof that he did it back then if there is any query.

It certainly is a nice surprise - especially at this time of year!
