Regarding removals, are you using a big company or man and van?Man and van can be as £20 an hour and as you don't have a house full of furniture and appliances to move it won't cost you much at all

Are you renting privately? Are there no carpets at all in the property?

You mention Uni for the next 7 weeks - are you finished after that? do you have a job lined up?

    Just a few ideas...

    Check Freecycle
Put a note/advert up at college asking as well - worth a try.

Finally, not ideal but if you feel you HAVE to have carpets then consider forgoing the underlay and putting down newspapers instead (we had to do this n out 1st house)

  • I've just thought as well, you say you have no cooker. For the time. Ring it may be cheaper to get a slow cooker, toaster and microwave. Again second hand and value ranges are fine and you can make some great healhy cheap meals with them x

Would recommend things like gum tree face book and freecycle
So many bargains to be had

Don't worry about everything right away
Gdness I'm in my house 2 years that's me just getting round to doing hall carpet bathroom etc
It takes time but ur child is ur priority
Check with council if they do any start up schemes in your area
Would a loan be of any help to you?
Keep an eye out for any friends and family decorating and see what they are tossing that you could up cycle

  • Thanks, but this will be a permanent home for the next 5 years at least, and it's Housing Association so pretty secure. I don't intend to move again after uni- I'd like a bit of a break then a job-hunt but I don't want to go through it all again, so I've chosen Coventry as our city and clearly, I'd like to really make this place a home for us. It's a fresh start :)
Up and onwards to the future!

Make a list of everything you'll need along with a budget.Assign a budget to each item and any saving is a bargain!

You should be able to do ok on getting the flat ready put don't push yourself.

    Have you got curtains etc?

  • Try freecycle as mentioned already. Also keep an eye out in gumtree. And the local charity shops.

Just get the minimum for now - bed, and either micro/over/cooker/slowcooker, and build up as you go along.

Things like shelves etc can wait.

Are you in a position to get a part-time job to start saving for the carpets?

    Hi
Near us is a charity that puts together furniture packs to furnish a flat. Have a word at your local surestart or with the housing association to see if they can advise.

    Good luck.
