Car Insurance Auto Renewal - Hastings Direct

Hi,
Although I cancelled my car insurance renewal by sending a message on their website (the renewal helpline was impossible to get through on), and I got a phone call confirming the cancellation , this bunch have taken the full amount from my bank account for the renewal and not issued any email or letter to say my insurance has been renewed. I have to assume that it hasn't been renewed.
I arranged insurance with another company because I had to. I have emailed Hastings and received a message that it will take up to 20 days to get a reply. It is very simple - they took my money and should pay it back.
Can anybody advise me what to do? Has anybody had any problems with this bunch?

I would go to your bank and tell them it is an unauthorised payment and ask for a refund in accordance with FSA rule BCOBS 5.1.11R.
Hastings might get stroppy but if they do tell them 1066 has nothing on 0300 123 9 123 (the number of the Financial Ombudsman Service).0 -
