Epileptic Dog Being Spayed

I know I already posted on this thread few days ago but that was about food for my dog and cat so totally different topic.
Anyway finally took the plunge and booked Ruby to be Neutered on Monday 28th Jan. I know its the best thing for her and would of done it a few years ago if I hadn't been so busy dealing with her epilepsy.

Am just so worried like can't sleep worried, stomach turning when think about her being neutered. My cats already been neutered when 6months old and was fine and was at same vets. Its just Ruby suffers from Epilepsy and is on medication, Phenobarbital 15mg once a day. Vet wants to ween her off them after operation as doesn't believe she needs to be medicated (Changed to a nearer vets few months ago)

Am just so worried about her going under the knife with her being epileptic, she not had a seizure in nearly 2 years though. She also has a grade 1 murmur, vet isn't worried and sometimes they can't even hear it. The vet said she will be fine and they are going to avoid a certain anasthetic that can sometimes cause seizures and get in and out as quick a possible.

But I just can't stop worrying. I don't know how am going to cope Monday. I just want to go in with her and hold her hand but obvs can't.

Just wondering has anyone had their dog neutered with epilepsy or a heart murmur and was there any complications? Plus how long does it generally take to heal and am worried about her at nightime because she sleeps in my bedroom and likes to sleep in bed with me. Has her own basket in my room but she might try and jump up or off the bed and rip her stitches. Also is the cone easy for them to sleep in?

Don't know anything about medical problems, can't help there.

When each of my girls have been spayed I have stayed downstairs that night and 'slept' on the settee because getting a woozy 25kg hound up steep stairs is a no no! My dogs sleep in the bedroom (not on the bed) but for the first couple of nights I camped out downstairs - easier for dog and access to the garden. I don't think my dogs had an 'Elizabethan collar'... think I would have remembered as the last op was only 3 years ago. You have to walk dog on lead until the stitches come out and try to stop them jumping up, running etc. Mind the first night they are usually very wobbly from the anaesthetic and just want to sleep.

I would say there is nothing to worry about but in your case things are rather different. In this instance the vet should be able to reassure you.

Thanks for the advice. Decided to get my fold down bed out (its a chair that turns into a bed) and sleep on that so she can come for a cuddle or just go in her own bed for first couple nights. She struggles to jump up on the bed with being small and has me up at like 3am stratching to get on bed :s.

I will imagine she will need to have the cone on her head as she very stubborn and won't listen if I say 'don't bite or lick your wound'. I walk her on the lead anyway so thats not a problem an she goes the toilet just before bedtime normally. what would you say is best food (if she wants any) to give her after operation?

Bought her a lovely pink baby blanket for when I pick her up and Simba (lion king) teddy is the wash to be all clean for monday night :)

UPDATE:Ruby had her op and at home now. All went fine and she has to go back in 5 days to make sure she healing properly. Going to start weaning her off the tablets in 10 days. She tired and sleepy right now and doesn't need collar on for now.
