simple question re paying off CC

in Credit cards
apologies in advance if this comes across as a stupid question but i'm thinking of applying for a sub-prime card in order to try and build my credit file up. i applied around 6 months ago for a clear card through the co-op to do this and was turned down as they felt i was financially overburdened, which is fair enough - i was at the time but have paid off significant amounts of money i owe. the reason i was going for a sub-prime was because the bar is lower and i will be paying it off in full every month, so avoiding the high interest rates
now, if i was to say just set up a monthly subscription for an item i buy anyway from amazon for around a fiver a month and set up a DD to pay it off in full, would that have the same effect as if i was spending say £200 a month and paying it off?
