:jThanks David. Will check that out later, off to T,A and Dunelm now to deal with the list I've been left today ! Then back home to do a bit of tidying up. Sigh.... a househusbands work is never done:( I knew it was a bad idea to be born on a Saturday....
Hello artha, I see you mention Dunelm Mill. We have just had one open near us, and it is wildly busy, but having had a quick look I cannot see what to buy there. Any bargains or tips for shopping there?? Thanks! Emily

I may be wrong here but I didn't think you could work 6 hours without a break, thought it was around 4.30?

Have a Google at the Working Time Regulations and I am sure this is covered on the direct gov website.

Also thought it was illegal not to have a contract of employment but I could be wrong

No wonder you are fed up :(

    Rest Breaks – Your Rights

When you are working you have a right to 20 minute break for every six hours that you work. Your employer can tell you when to take it as long as it is taken in one block, is not at the beginning or end of your day and you are allowed to spend it off the premises. Workers that are under 18 are entitled to more and can take 30 minutes for every four and a half hours that they work.

:) thanks but this Interim firm are so legal it's scarey

    :(
    Rest breaks at work

A worker is entitled to an uninterrupted break of 20 minutes when daily working time is more than six hours. It should be a break in working time and should not be taken either at the start, or at the end, of a working day.

I agree it is against the regulations. It used to be 10 minutes paid break for every four hours and 30 minutes lunch (unpaid) for every 5 hours. I would fight them as they sound like they are just trying it on

Good afternoon everyone. A bit of a rotten day on the weather front. High winds and rain here not at all nice.
Hugs for Alfie and wishing him a speedy recovery. I think our pets eyes tell the story, it tugs at your heart strings.
I hope bubbs move is going okay and it all goes smoothly.
Glad you have got your hand sorted out Markz and that it heals without you needing surgery.
Snap-Ant, my sympathies are with you. My OHs company was 'bought out' and they are a proper pain in the rear. He has had an email to tell him that he is only allowed to take one weeks holiday at a time because of 'cover issues'. He has a contract from his previous employer but it just states his entitlement to four weeks holiday. We really don't know what to do either, we do try to go abroad but financially it makes sense to have two weeks in one go. They have workers by the short & curlies, jobs are so hard to come by.
Anyway lovely people I hope your day is going okay for you and I am sending hugs to everyone who is not feeling so good or who has problems. x
