If they are taking that long they should hire more staff - after all they are providing a public service
No argument there.
Sadly civil servants, particularly DWP ones are not the government's favourites (any government of any colour)- hence their dreadful pay and shoddy treatment.
Plus, of course, that would have to be paid for.
Just imagine the government or party that says "we're going to increase taxes to pay for more social security workers."
