Staffordshire Bull Terrier

My lovely little boy staffy (is 4 years old now) Gus has poorly skin its only really come on in the last 2-3 weeks, he is loosing perfectly circular partches of fur from all over him each no bigger then a 5p, the last few days he has been scratching and biting him self making himself quite sore.

So my oh took him to the vet as the only thing I could think of was mange but apparently not, the vet said its a hereditary condition that all staffies are born with but in some the hormone is released and it causes this reaction and others will never have it.

So we have the tablets and shampoo stuff, but my oh can not remember what this condition it called has anyone elses staffie had this problem and do you remember what its called please?

I thought it was going to be ringworm. I've never heard of this condition born in staffies. Off to google.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Canine atopic dermatitis? Not confined just to staffie though?

    Demodicosis? Very common with staffies.

Dear me them images are very upsetting, if it is that is no where near that scale.

The vet said it was caused by a hormone not a mite so I don't think it is that

Do update when he gets in, I'm intrigued.

As the owner of a Staffie x I am also intrigued . . Chaya has had flaky skin in circles before which they just said was a skin infection but hers just looked like it was peeling/flaking in a circle shape

Sounds a bit like something Wils did a couple of years ago. She had small bald patches where she licked and 'bit' herself, when i mentioned it to the vet she said to just give her Piriton as it sounds like an allergy.

Why don't you just phone the vet and ask for clarification??
