Hoping someone can help

In November I reversed into a car in a McDs car park. Not disputing that, and not disputing the fact I probably did some damage.

In the first instance it took her nearly a week to contact me and ask for my insurance details. I gave her a call and explained about the damage on my car (a tiny barely recognisable scratch- not even the guy who came to examine my car could see it properly) and that I would imagine hers would be similar and that if I could expect the damage I would be willing to give her the straight cash to get it sorted out rather than waiting for the ins company. She wouldn't send me a picture of the damage so we left it at that for the night when I said I would talk to my parents the next day.

Her insurance company ring me the next day- they had the details of my insurance, so why did she need to text me in the first place? I assume she wrote down my reg number and passed it on. They then chased me because my insurance company wouldn't give the broker details- despite when I rang my ins company after the initial call that they didn't need that information, they shouldn't be contacting me and to tell them to contact them if they did again

All went quiet for a while and then someone came out to inspect my car- took a picture of the damage and off they went and someone else would inspect the other car.

The girl then decided she wanted to claim injury- now, I was doing under 5mph in a carpark. A very low collosion impact- am I really suppose to believe she has "whiplash".

My insurance company are doing a full investigation- I haven't heard a dicky bird for nearly six weeks though and I am wondering what is going on. I can't ring them I don't think as the main insurer on the car is my Mum and not me (im just a named driver or whatever you call it)

Was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situ and what the outcome was?

If you think she is tryin it on, say so.

This sounds like one of those claims that the government is trying to stamp out.

Not sure why you've claimed for your car if it doesn't have any damage though? If it is worth claiming for then it must be more than an almost invisible scratch?

Anyway, beside the point. Just let them do their thing. apart from suggesting the whiplash claim is spurious at best it is for the insurance companies to sort out. Make sure you pass on any other correspondence directly to them.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • I haven't claimed for anything?? Sorry I don't see how I gave you that impression.

I've never had someone inspect the damage on my car unless I was claimign for it. Hence the confusion.

I assume as you aren't claiming and they have checked it out then they also think it's a bit of a scam. Just let them battle. The problem you have is an unresolved claim dragging on as it sounds like it si getting a bit of a pain for all concerned.

whiplash at 5mph what a joke this makes me very angry my premiums increase because of this problem. Modern cars are stacked with safety features compared to years ago. Hopefully the insurance company will smell a rat and investigate. I had a car pull out of a junction and slam into my drivers door i was travelling at 25mph approx they was found at 100% fault and i had NO injuries
  • I reversed into a car a few years ago at barely 3mph. not a scratch on my car and a tiny 1cm crack in his number plate. Within a week i received a solicitors letter saying he had whiplash injuries. I actually laughed when i opened the letter. I phoned my insurance and despite me telling them that he can't possibly have whiplash with the speed in which i hit his car they paid him £1500 for his 'injury'. Total joke.

Sorry to add to the downside on this, but my better half had an almost identical incident, her reversing a 3 series and a Volvo (ancient 240) came barreling through the car park and touched, I mean touched. Decent pics were taken on mobile showing absolutely no damage on either car (the volvo didn't even have any clean marks on its caked on filth) and yet a month later, better halfs insurer at the time informed her she was at fault and they had paid out £1k for volvo plus £1500 each for the 5 people in it. They could not give a toss about the lack of genuine damage or the fraud involved on three levels, no damage, no whiplash and volvo only had the driver in it!
Put it in the hands of your insurer, do not communicate with anyone else and put it down to experience.
  • Sorry fivetide- we want to know what the damage is on her car (as do my insurance company) so they sent an independant company out to inspect both vehicles to see if the damage would match up.

I think I will leave it. Thanks everyone.
