Independent Student Needs Help

Options
I am coming to the end of my 2nd year at uni I have a student loan I received near £5,000 odd last year and near £5,000 odd this year and I rent a room at a £100 a week within a flat share.

I work events at some venues but its not permanent work. I have not had a permanent part time job whilst at uni as yet, in my first year I wanted to just concentrate on uni and I went for many interviews this year but no luck I think due to my hours at uni. I am looking to work full time during the summer but I am worried even if I could get a part time job for next year that I wouldn't be able to cope as it being the final year.

I get no help from parents and I am finding it hard to keep up with rent payments and I was wondering if there is any help I can get, I checked with the student loan company to see if I could increase my loan but was told it wasn't possible.

I live in West London the £100 a week includes electricity, gas and water it is a pretty good price for London. I just thought there might be some other type of help other than the student loan out there.

I have no prob working just I am worried I will find it hard to juggle work and uni in my final year after not working in the 1st and 2nd.

Why not apply to the access fund? Third year students are normally prioritised, as they recognise that the loan is reduced in the final year. If your income is less than your outgoings, and your expenses are fairly reasonable then they might be able to help. This is a good time of year to apply too, because they will want to hand out any money they have left to ensure it all gets used by next academic year. I'm sure there's a thread on this forum about the access fund, why not have a look for some more information.

I wouldn't worry about juggling work and study, unless you're struggling on your course; most people do it so it's not that difficult. The thing is not to be greedy and to do no more than 12/15 hours per week. What is your degree subject that the hours are so difficult? You must be able to get a couple of evenings of bar work in London; that's generally the trade off, higher rents but lots of well paid work.
