Isnt it mail.tesco.net for pop and smtp? or pop3.tesco.net and smtp.tesco.net is a firewall blocking anything at all? but one account is working maybe make sure of the settings, by that i mean is their a comma instead of a full stop or a password issue or username just have a good old check.0

right ive just tried mail.tesco.net and its no workie still?
how i 1st posted is my other account is set and its working, i must be close if i can receive mail but not send it?0 -
Hi there!
Two things to check/try:
1. On the servers tab have you set the Account Name in the same style on both accounts - sometimes your username is enough, sometimes the server is picky and wants your full email address as the Account Name.
2. On the servers tab again, have you set Outgoing Mail "My server requires authentication" ?0 -
do i require authentication??0
-
...almost certainly you do indeed steveo:-) ... just but a check mark in the box ... no need for any Advanced settings, it will authenticate using your account name and password as it does for incoming.
Edit: BTW, I have checked the server settings for you and dps is correct that the best server to use for both incoming and outgoing is now probably mail.tesco.net:
See here:
http://www.tesco.net/help_pages/questions/server_settings.html
I say 'probably best' because email providers are now notorious for changing their preferred servers without really telling anyone except last weeks new customers, and then willy-nilly switching off the functionality of servers that are no longer in favour.
I have sorted two such problems in as many months with two other providers.
If you are still stuck, have a look at this help page too:
http://www.tesco.net/help_section/email.htm#rcpt
...but do not confuse "Logon with Secure Password Authentication" which is NOT required, with the "Outgoing Mail server - my server requires authentication" that I mention earlier. The latter is a different setting, and I am slightly surprised that Tesco do not mention it on the above page.0 -
right still wont work
as far as i can tell ive checked all mentioned above..tried a few names and what not with no effect
fwiw ive had that email account for years and its only just started playing up sinse i set it up on this comp? i have had it working on this pc0 -
try to use account1 username and password for sending account2 emails but keep the other settings such as return address the same.
Another method (works with some providers) is to have anybody@username.tesco.net where "anybody" can be any of your account names.0 -
If using outlook express you may need to set up another identity from file identities add new identity, also do teso let you have more than one address and is pop set up for that address in tesco's accounts interface?0
