Asus laptop broke again 2nd time in 8 months

I bought an Asus laptop from Argos in May last year, it was sent back in November as it kept crashing and they replaced the hard drive and now the charger has to be held in place to get a charge.

I also tried a universal charger we had for our old laptop and its the same so again must be a problem with the inside and have been given another job number to arrange for it to be sent off again for another repair

At 8 months surely this isnt right being repaired twice, do i have any consumer rights as i want something sorted before its out of the years guarantee

Thanks in advance

In terms of the 1 year guarantee, what matters is when the fault was reported, not when it gets repaired. If you report a fault 364 days after purchase the guarantee still applies.

And yes, they are allowed to offer to repair it. You cannot insist on a refund or replacement. (You can ask, but they can say no).
  • Surely its not fit for purpose after the 2nd repair in 8 months

Surely that would depend on the terms of the warranty?

    Depends.

You're going to be really upset when they (likely) level the charger point damage down to misuse/accidental damage too.

If I were you I would remain really compliant and not confrontational about your current situation, otherwise you could find yourself having to pay for this second repair.

As a pc engineer of 22 years i have allways found that loose charger sockets were caused by rough handling or tripping over cable attached while charging the laptop.
Keep stuum as the repair of these sockets is very expensive in time and therefore money.
  • I can't really help but can offer sympathy as I currently have an Asus laptop in for repair. The loose charger socket is something being replaced on mine (along with other bits) and was the same on my brother in laws. I think they are just a poor part of the laptop.

Asus have been terrible and I am really struggling to get a result of any kind from my transaction.
