What paint for interior white doors??

Hi,

Wondered if anyone could give some advise on what paint you should use for interior white doors. The doors have a very nice smooth none gloss finish and dont seems very thick, I dont know how the person before us painted the doors so well.

In the past I have used Gloss and it looks thick and not as well finished as these. Its seems to look very thick.

Would satin paint be the one? Just that these doors are a very nice white thin finish and want to get it looking liek it is but fresh.

Could it be the original factory finish? probably sprayed.

Some light cleaning might restore the original finish, but if not then my personal preference is satin paint. Applied with a really good quality brush (don't be tempted by the cheap ones from the sheds) carefully and evenly, I find satin to be more forgiving of any blemishes than gloss and more easily wiped than matt paint.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

I think it could be the factory finish, it looks so thin, but saying that ther eis a small brush blade stuck to one door.

They are in good condition but have some bumps and marks that require painting, its shame as I dont think the paint will blend in.

Aylesbury Duck - I think I will get some satin paint and aks at the shop and YES I will get a decent brush, i always use cheaper ones and always complain so Ill take that advice.

Would you ROLLER OR BRUSH THE DOORS?

personally I would brush them if they are panel doors and roller them if they are totally flat.

if they are panel doors, have a look online for some advice - there is a suggested order for painting the various panels, mouldings, etc. Here's one page of advice:

Another vote for satin here.

I have imitation panelled doors, i rollered the flat bits and brushed the decorative grooved parts.

Thats probably because you put it on too thick. Two thin coats are far better than one thick one.

Personally I hate satin finish with a vengeance but if its a smooth non-gloss finish now and thats what you want to replicate then eggshell would be a much better choice.

Take the doors off and lay them flat while you're painting and allowing them to dry. it'll help with getting a smoother finish (gravity FTW) and avoid drips.

Satin is half way between matt and gloss ... it has a mild sheen to it. It's more forgiving on less than perfectly flat surfaces that show up in glossy reflections.

I personally use Dulux non drip gloss - White. Get a good quality brush, you will need a medium sized one and a little one. Also get an artist brush if there is intricate stuff to do and cut the brush accordingly. Make sure there are no loose bristles.

Its all about the prep, get the door ready, fill all imperfections, sand down and wipe it dust free. Then kit yourself with nice fitting gloves (vinyl maybe) and have the pint in a small paint bucket, only take what you need for that time. Have some cleaner and a supply of lint free rag.

To get a great finish, work with your whole arm and body, don't try to just use the wrists. Thin even coats and smooth brushwork. And don't forget to clean up immediately.

For those complaining my Gloss went yellow, make sure you have enough natural light, that keeps gloss white.
