Always found radish very quick and easy to grow for the little ones, my daughters did not like the taste of them, however they took great pride in presenting radish to grandpa and nanna to add to their best Sunday salad.

Take a look at this recent thread:

Easy vegetables to grow with children

Lots of ideas. How old is your son? What does he like to eat?

Hi, Radish is very quick and easy to grow, its up in a flash, well nearly. where are you and your young boy thinking of growing things? In a pot or in a space in the garden. When my boy was about 4yrs old, he wanted to help on the allotment that we had, I gave him a small area for him self to look after, with supervision of course. He decided to sow some carrot seeds and was convinced that they would grow to be tinned carrots, bless him. Cress is another thing that is quick. runner beans in plastic containers then he can watch them develop and can plant them out when they are ready to go out side. Can't think of anything else at the moment but i am sure some one will come up with a good idea. Have fun. demented

At that age I got my niece a herb-growing kit, of 3 pots, some compost, a mini-trowel, and basil/mint/marjoram seeds.

I grew Gourds last year. Very easy (but they do take over) and grow massive fruit in strange shapes. You then dry the fruit and can paint it - swans, snakes etc...

Sweetcorn is good - sow in pots indoors then plant out. You can also get popcorn seed which you can dry and then cook your own popcorn
