Interesting that people presume that a higher rate tax payer is a 'he', even when she has clearly stated that she has come back from maternity leave...0

Don't wish to be rude, but I do sometimes wonder how people can be in jobs paying salaries that put them into higher rate tax and not even be able to work out their payslip ;-)
I have over 15 lines on my payslip - very confusing.
I don't profess to actually know how it all works.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

You say "people" but I can only see one post that uses any gender specific terms which I interpreted as an error do to moving between threads rather than an assumption due to earning power. Unless I've missed anything of course.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -

It is a tiny bit rude. Earning a bit more money doesn't suddenly give you more knowledge on tax, pensions and other deductions. I'm sure there are lots of minimum wage workers know lots on the subject. Maybe even more so as they are more sensitive to changes in their take home pay.
No, but earning potential should indicate a basic level of reasoning. I don't expect someone to know the exact percentages and allowances, but they should have a rough idea of how it works. I should clarify that it was a general observation and not specific to this OP.0 -
So by your reckoning all footballers should be up there with Stephen Hawking????0

No, they earn so much they would have an accountant to ask ;-)
and it wouldn't be straightforward PAYE0 -
It could be worth putting a tad more into the pension to bring you back below the higher rate for tax.Signature removed for peace of mind0
