Smashed up iMac screen

Have managed to smash the screen on my iMac.
It still works - the display is behind the covering glass that broke.
Qn is - it does everything I need it to do really well, don't really need a new computer... So I want to know what my options are, is there any chance a repair from Apple will be cheaper than a brand new one...
Here's hoping

iMac glass is held on by magnets, and is really very very easy to remove. Use a suction cap, or if you have long fingernails, gently but firmly, pull the glass away.
A new glass will cost about £170 or so, and is very easy to fit, no tools needed at all0 -
Sorry-misread. I just saw that it was the digitiser that got broke!:-(0

Good job the glass was there or you would have knackered the screen.
If you can find-out what type of glass it is, you may be able to get a local glass supplier to cut you a piece for around £20.00Never Knowingly Understood.

The main glass is gorilla glass. You can't just buy it for a couple of quid. For that, I'm afraid it's an embarrassed call to apple...0 -

Is this a new aluminum iMac, or a older white iMac? The design is very different for each.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Absoloutley right! 2010 models or later have it so that the glass (oops, sorry, toughened!) "wraps around" the metal casing. plus, is it a 2011 refreshed model, with the Isight camera facility? Is this a new aluminum iMac, or a older white iMac? The design is very different for each.0
