Creatine

I am very cynical about these products and really never use them that often, except for the odd protein drink, prefer to carry around a few tins of tuna most of the time.

But before Xmas I was talked into using creatine, I did the usual 5 day load, now just having 5grm per day(teaspoon).
I am training really well after a long forced break, but I never would of expected to be bench pressing 90kg already.

It really does seem to be helping me to recover a lot quicker, and I starting to believe that I will be benching 100kg in maybe the next three months, I never thought that would happen again.

Should(or can) I keep taking it? or do I need a break from it after a few months.

Has anyone else used creatine, what do you think, did you notice any improvemet?

Do you think it will be much use when I start doing some serious cardio in a few months and cut down on the weights?

  • Good job on the progress :).

    1) Yes you can keep taking it, there has never been found to be any harm from taking it over long periods of time.

    2) I use creatine and think it is a very good product which led to an increase in bodyweight of about 2.5Kg, some muscle gain and definite strength gains.

    3) I would say creatine is good when you are weight training. Using creatine when you increase cardio is probably a useful tool for maintaining some strength. If you increase cardio and reduce weight training then it may help to maintain strength and muscle, but I'm not sure how useful it would be.

Keep taking it, creatine is found naturally in the body and hasnt yet been known to cause adverse affects in the vast majority of people.
Buy the best creatine as the cheap products really dont stack up. Make sure you eat lots and healthily, as this is the true key.
Train with INTENSITY! Dont train like a wimp, go in hard and stress your muscles to the point where you know that they'd hurt the next day. The implementation of good quality protein will negate those affects and speed recovery times.
    REST AND REPEAT.

At the moment I am going in the gym with the intention of being out within an hour, I am going for intentsity like you say and putting the empthasis on working big muscle groups with core training exercises, exercise such as dead lifts bench pressing and the horrible squats.
I am never going to be like what I was in my early 20's when it comes to strength and fitness:(.. but I always remember a ratio someone told me once of having your biceps 10 inches bigger than your wrists, I am very close now:), wish my waist would come down quicker though... any advice?

I am eating little and often, 20/30 grams of protein, and loads of veg, I did weaken this weekend though, had a few guiness, Oh God they were lovely:beer:

p.s Just a little bit of advice for you two guys... DEAD LIFTS.. I tell you what I wish someone had drummed it into my head how good they are when I was younger.

    Happy training guys
  • You can't really spot-train for fat loss. Why can't you be like you were in your 20s? Go for it! Find some inspirational stories, and track how you look then compare to an old photo :)

There can be problems with creatine if you start to use it in large quantities.

Excess fluid (bloating) in the muscles and abdomen, and also kidney problems, caused by the kidneys having to work harder, due to the dehydrating effect which creatine can cause.
Unless you are an elite athlete under the supervision of a sports science team, why would you want to use creatine?
