Getting rid of a large patch of nettles?

  • I spent an hour and a half today clearing (a neglected) bed in the polytunnel. I pulled a massive loads of roots out. I'd been putting it off for ages so my own fault really. We had a garden similar to yours OP where the back end was a mass of brambles and nettles (we were renting at the time) we did just leave them though. As others have said, having some is beneficial, but they can get out of hand.

I feel chuffed that the tunnel is sorted now though :)

This made me  a bit considering the recent weather but then I read they were under a tunnel.

The snow here is starting to clear, been warmer today and now it's raining so hopefully this time next week I might get some clearing up done. Though how hard the ground will be I'm not sure about.
  • Benefit of a tunnel, you can go in even when the weather isn't so good. I know it's been a bit warmer today but I ended up ditching my coat. In Yorkshire and have had snow on the ground for nearly 2 weeks now.

Same here! I'm near Doncaster but last night's rain has cleared most of it away. I can see the grass again! :D

Having just been out clearing the garden, I've realised just how big a job it was. So I'm taking the lazy option. Going to get some screening and cut that section of the garden off. Then plant something along the screening to cover it.

That way the wildlife gets to keep the nettles and we get to ignore them and act like they don't exist :D
