Can I return goods bought via Voucher Site?

Hi All
I purchased a jewellery set via LivingSocial voucher site in October, redeemed it right away and having inspected it on arrival I wrapped it up to give as an Xmas present.
The present was opened and we were both delighted with the necklace, earring and bracelet set therein. However, after wearing the set only twice since Xmas day (approx 3rd Jan) the stone was found to be missing from one of the earrings. We searched the house, clothes and pockets to no avail. They had only been worn as day wear...no bungie jumping or mud wrestling!
As it seems the fitting wasnt upto scratch, I emailed the company (Neverlandsales) on Jan 8th documenting the problem and merely asking for a replacement earring as otherwise we were very pleased with the set. The emailed back (Jan 12th) saying they were sorry to hear about the fault, and if I could sent them a photo of the earrings and delivery address they would ship a replacement. This I did immediately.
I was then emailed the next day asking for a pdf copy of my voucher after which it would all be sorted out. It took me over a week to find a digital copy of the voucher but when I found it I sent it as requested (Jan 23rd).
I had a reply today saying that they have a 30 day returns policy and cannot refund or replace this order!!
Can they do this? Surely not, as lasting for two outings hardly seems acceptable for an earing to stay intact?
All help and suggestions very gratefully received folks!
Ta in advance

At least you had a reply from them.
I ordered goods through them for Christmas presents back in November. They eventually arrived Christmas eve which was by then too late as I had replaced them. I emailed 6 times in total - before Christmas to try and find out delivery dates and then afterwards to cancel as is my right under the Distance Selling Regulations. No response from any of their numerous email addresses.
Currently in the hands of my credit card disputes team who are trying to obtain a refund. Awful company and would never use again.0
