Couldnt find where to post this so thought here seemed a start.
Does anyone else grow veg? What do you grow veg in - ie recycling products? I have obviously thought about old baths (have one I grow carrots and parsnips in) what else do people use to be green, cost effective and works? I have a large veg plot but find it too much as Im not that well so want to try and grow more in containers but having the plot it hard to justify buying pots - hope that makes sense
I heard you can use card egg boxes for starting tom plants etc anyone tried are they successful? Has anyone already started their tomatoes? I have a large window sill so thought I could place couple of egg boxes there without too much trouble as dont want to start heating greenhouse yet. But so love fresh toms want as long a growing season as possible

I use empty loo rolls to start off beans and peas.
You might have more luck with replies on the gardening thread.

I grow potatoes in feed sacks (or you could use heavy duty binliners at a pinch). Roll the sides down and fill with about six inches of earth. As the potatoes grow, roll the sides up and fill with more earth!
I use the plastic containers that croissants/muffins come in - like a clear plastic box with a "hinged" lid. Fill the bottom with soil and sow seeds. Water and put the lid back on. Mini greenhouse! You can also use tin cans as plant pots, if you pierce some holes in the bottom for drainage.
I basically re-use every plastic or foil container that doesn't get recycled any other way for starting off seeds.0 -
I have a horse so the feed sacks I have plenty always bin them and they lovely strong and huge so ideal thanks for that idea. We also have croissants most saturdays as our little weekend brekkie treat and the idea of mini greenhouses is also a good one - I just knew this site be ideal for suggestions thanks0

I'm new to growing but as I've recently moved into a new place with a small plot of land I thought I'd best start!
I was recently brought an Allotinabox as a Birthday present and I must say it's awesome!!! I definitely recommend it!
Does anyone know anything about growing chillies? I've just got some seeds in0 -
OP - have you had a look at the Greenfingered Moneysaving board?
