Paying in cheque from American bank

Hi, I have a cheque coming from America for completing surveys (global test market) Having just read my banks t&c regarding foreign cheques it doesn't sound like they will take it because its under £100. Does anyone know what the uk guidelines are regarding this or of any banks that will take the cheque?

Are they safe to use? The website isn't really filling me with confidence.

Different banks have different limits (Santander's was £50 when I was there), and below that they consider the cheque 'not economical to process'.
Could it be possible to discuss with the company sending to draw the cheque on a London bank for you? What this means is that it would be a UK bank, in sterling and won't charge you to pay into your bank - it would just go as a normal cheque (in theory). Santander used to charge £10 to draw one, if the charge is similar, offer to accept a £90 cheque to cover this cost at their end?

  • Hi, Cybi-Ping

I've been with Global Testmarket for about 4 years now, and all my cheques have been in sterling. Are you sure yours is going to be in US dollars?

I thought because the stated amount was in dollars they must pay in dollars. It sounds like I am worrying un-nesseserily, thank you for the reassurances!
