What can I say! I followed Martin's SAD FARTs guide, I understood the law as he explained it and followed his advice to the letter as I always do.
If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with them.
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
Anyway it eventually worked out as I hoped and I wouldn't be as naive as to think that every case would be the same. Just as you would expect the company to treat each case individually and not read it from their standard script

Today I very unexpectedly received a private letter from John Roberts the CEO of Appliances Online with a personal apology for the failings of his company. Whatever else, John Roberts definitely understands good customer service and I'm appreciative of the the letter0
