For some reason my DVD/CD drive isn't showing. However when I go into Device Manager there an exclamation mark where the drive is listed however when I select Update driver it tells me that 'The best driver software for your device is already installed'.
It also says under Device Properties:-
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Does all this mean I need a new DVD/CD drive installed or can something be done to get it working again?

You could try and download a driver for the dvd drive if you know the make and model, from the vendors website and install that.0

It's nothing to do with the driver. It's a bug that's been in Windows for at least a decade now. Follow one of the online guides and you will get it working Ok:

Here's another one.Note This automatic fix only applies to Windows XP and to Windows Vista. If your computer is running Windows 7, go to "Windows 7" under the "Let me fix it myself" section.0 -
thanks TangleFoot
I went through the process and it said that it was a driver problem but couldn't fix it yet when I tried reinstalling the driver as explained above it said the most up to date driver was installed after searching online.
So one process is telling me one thing and another is telling me different!
On the Troubleshooting Report it says:-
There is a problem with the driver for HL-DT-ST DVDRAM_GH15N ATA Device.
Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem.
There is also an Error Code 19 being reported.0 -
And your Windows version is...?0
