Hi,
My husband lost his job at the end of november, and has not claimed any JSA, he has put a claim in today. We dont claim any working tax credits, if i apply for them today will they need to know how much we both earnt in the last tax year or do i say he is now unemployed? Also i earnt alot less in the last tax year and dont want to over claim now, it's confusing!!! dont want to claim any benefits but we are starting to struggle!!!

Yes if you put in a claim for working tax credits they will need to know your income. I think it is based on the previous year earnings but perhaps another poster may be more savvy. Meantime your husband should be entitled to contributions based JSA which is £71. Unless you have dependent children then you need to be working 30+ hours to qualify for working tax credits. From experience I found it took just under 3 weeks before we received any money into our bank but not every case is the same. Good luck and hopefully your husband finds some work.0

When you fill in the tax credits form, it will ask for previous year income. Once your award is processed you can call with an estimate for this year (make sure it is as accurate as possible as if it is too low you could have an overpayment).
be careful when filling in the form to tick the right box with regards to Jobseeker's Allowance by checking whether it is contribution based or income based he is getting.

worth remembering that when you change to the estimate for this year you need to include your husbands income from April to end November0
