Universal Job match nightmares

part of my job is helping people find a job

which now includes them using Universal Job match by Monster

most of the people I help have little to no IT skills

I, on the other hand have lived on computers since mid 80s

I am finding UJ is a nightmare

if the learner is OK with its fine

but most can't remember their gateway number to login (why they can't use their email address to login is a mystery)

if/when they forget their gateway number, it prompts them to make a new account and new profile

after making a new profile it won't let them create a new account with same email address

so they have to create a new email account

then the web page remembers previous account details and can't create the new account until I clear cookies, restart the browser and basically start every day creating new accounts

heeeeeeeelpppppp

is there something I'm missing?

  • I hate the fact that you can't pinpoint where a job is. Previously when you put in your postcode you could also access a link which gave directions how to get to the job via public transport and by car. UJM does not give enough information about the employer which I preferred because I could do my homework on the company. Bring back the old job site. Pleeeeese.
  • Why not have them write their gateway number on an appointment card that they keep in their wallet?

That is my current process strangely enough - but come job search day - they cant find it, forgot it and cant remember it - or some of them a so clever they dont keep it because they can remember about 80% of it which they think should be enough :(

and they type/remember their passwords words wrong & for confidentiality my company wont let me record passwords - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

If i can login to my shopping accounts/forums using my email address & password then i dont get what they think is soooooooo precious about a few job applications that it must have 47289412 digit code and 2 day rigamarole for recovering an account

I think I will start recording their number for when they forget and just pray to God they remember their own password

Record their gateway number in their securely held case file.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
  • Any reason that you are forcing your clients to use Universal Job match (Failure), when there are far better Job sites available?. By using this site you are doing them a disservice.
  • I personally think its terrible, they 'bump' jobs from days previous, so when you click jobs from today it comes up with identical jobs that were posted days before just with today's date on, I can only imagine this is some attempt to fudge figures of how many 'new' jobs they post every day. They are also allowing agencies to post, I looked the other day and in my postcode area alone and I clicked jobs posted today by 0945 there were 18 pages of new jobs, or non jobs as I prefer to call them.
Allowing adverts from the likes of betterware which frankly isn't a real job is embarassing and shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.
It just makes it a far less attractive jobsearch site having to trawl through all this nonsense.

I've just started signing on. I spoke to my adviser for the first time yesterday and he told me they were trying to phase out job search booklets and wanted everyone to make their applications through the new UJM because it automatically recorded their job search activity. Apparently the fact that i had been using other sites to make applications, or asking in person for work, won't be accepted as proof i'm seeking work.

so they are seriously saying you have to ONLY use the UJM as all the jobs in the world are advertised on there? LOL

    Surely they are joking?!!

There are more jobs advertised on www.reed.co.uk than the UJM site.

since I am paid indirectly to support JVP clients they insist I teach them how to use it

but you're right - I need to get a job that is possible to do
