Anyone got a Motorola Defy?

Hi,
My Motorola Defy running Android 2.2 doesn't seem to get on with my wireless router at home very well. It will often stop sending or receiving anything despite the settings showing it's still connected to the wireless network. Toggling the Wi-Fi off then on again always gets it working again for a while at least.
I haven't tested thoroughly but I think it may only be my home router I have the problem with. It's s basic Thomson TG585 v8 that I got from Plusnet.
If you've got a Defy and don't have this trouble could you let me know which router you're using?
Thanks

Hi Ahar, I have a Motorola Defy and have not had any problems with the wi-fi. My router at home is a Netgear (provided by Sky) but it works fine with all wireless routers. When I got the phone I updated the firmware to version 2.2.2, is that the same as yours? Does your phone connect reliably to other wireless routers or access points?

    Hi,
It had Android 2.1 when I bought it SIM-free and later upgraded to to 2.2 via my PC using that slightly shonky Motorola Software Update tool. I don't have it with me at the moment so I'll check the precise version number later.
I haven't used it in many places but don't remember having this problem at work. My budget doesn't stretch to kind of high-end access points we use here though!
I think I read somewhere that locking the router to 802.11g would help but that's how I had mine anyway. Enabling 801.11n hasn't made a difference. Sometime it works for the whole time I'm using it an others it's just a few seconds.

You may well find that it's not the router that is the problem but your phone.

If you google "motorola defy problem reboot" you will see that these phones (the defy and defy+) have issues with constant rebooting and also struggling to lock onto a wifi connection. Unfortunately Motorola seem to be in denial that there is much of a problem despite many, many prople complaining about these two issues.

Do you have any better luck connecting to different routers? If you do then I'd suspect the problem is with the phone.

I have a Moto Defy+ and have never had any real issue connecting to wifi although once in a blue moon I have had to reboot my Netgear router for it to connect.

BUT I have suffered from the reboot problem Evilspike mentions above. I have just sent it back under warranty to SBE Ltd who are the moto repair centre and they've repaired it, recased the entire casing/glass screen (not sure why they did this as my casing looked almost perfect but it's nice to have it replaced!) and so far it's not rebooted itself since I switched it on and has been on for 92 hours (doesn't sound impressive but the damned thing always rebooted every few days and more recently rebooted 3 times a day)

Oh one thought occurs to me - That Thomson TG585 v8 modem is known to have some issues, my sister in law has one and her Dell laptop kept disconnecting via wifi all the time....I ended up fitting a Netgear DG834 insteads..... a look on the Plusnet support forum showed many people having issues with it and they either replace the modem (If you complain) or they offer a firmware upgrade that may help.... there was a check you could do, I think it was disable Wireless N option and that was a temp fix.

Link to Plusnet forum about this wifi issue.
