Yes, we need to weed out these silly jokes...

seriously though, for any gardeners reading this, I have a bit of a sick lawn - it looks like turfs have been laid on a bed of sand with a layer of plastic below that. It's slowly dying (and sinking as well).

If I lift it, what should I prepare it with, in the form of a base, before I recoat it with cheap B&Q turf???

As already mentioned....you should not buy turf that has been cut over 24 hours previously as it effectively heats up whilst rolled up and in warmer weather the grass 'cooks' inside the roll.

Whilst you may get B&Q turf cheaper you may find all that effort put in to preparing and laying it a waste of time when it dies or looks sickly. Worth paying a little more.

I got mine delivered free from the experts Rolawn who have a good online calculator and ordering system. They cut it at 5am on the day of delivery and if for some reason there is an unexpected delay (say a lorry breaks down) they throw it all away and recut new stuff the next day.

Rolawn are charging at least £3.98 per sq. metre whereas the B&Q offer works out at about 30p for a square metre.

Where does this '24 hour" figure come from? Rolled up turf is good for days.

Why don't you just use seed? Cheapest of the lot. And you can choose what type you want. Right time of year for it!
